In keeping with the needs of an ever-changing
industry, the American Society of Safety
Engineers’ annual professional development conference
and exposition provides a forum for thousands
of attendees to learn about the latest issues
and trends in the environmental health and safety
profession. This year’s meeting will take place in
Baltimore, June 13-16.
The range of topics combined with the quality
of speakers makes the ASSE conference program
among most engaging in the industry. The sessions
provide leading edge education tied to the hands-on
opportunities that can be seen on the exhibit floor.
ASSE’s conference offers 200 concurrent education
sessions including some sessions in Spanish,
features 20 subject areas, hosts on average 400
exhibitors, and offers several networking opportunities
and events.

The 7th International Fall Protection Symposium
(IFPS) will be held June 16-17, 2010, at the Baltimore
Hilton in conjunction with Safety 2010. Attracting safety
practitioners and scholars from around the world, the
IFPS provides an international, multidisciplinary platform
for attendees to discuss and learn about the latest
tools and methods for controlling and eliminating falls.

It isn’t easy being green. Find out what works and

Winston will explain how companies use technology
and green thinking to create smarter, stronger
businesses. He will explore environmental pressures,

David Michaels, Ph.D, MPH, Assistant Secretary

to questions from our panel moderator. He will
address the key issues and concerns of SH&E professionals
on the activities and impact of the regulatory,
standards development and compliance assistance

Geoffery Colvin — The Upside of the
Downturn: Management Strategies to Prevail
in the Recession and Thrive in the Aftermath
Smart business leaders see opportunities in all
situations, good and bad. Geoffrey Colvin, senior
editor at large for
FORTUNE magazine, will share
how successful leaders respond in a crisis, specific
tactics leaders use in these tough times and how
to position yourself and your business to be strong.
Colvin, author of “The Upside of the Downturn”
and “Talent is Overrated” will address the most vital
issues facing business and the economy.
Joe Malarkey— Choose to Lose
You might think things are bad, but no matter how
bad things seem to be, Joe Malarkey can make it
worse! He will poke fun at all the tried, trusted and
clichéd business and motivational classics you have
heard before. Malarkey will share his upside-down,
“Choose to Lose” viewpoint on a variety of topics.
Nonsense? You bet! He ties it all together with an
important message: You can’t let the chance of failure

The Safety 2010 Exposition includes more than

Exposition Safety 2009, held in San Antonio, the

Antonio, TX, approximately 3,500 people from 36
countries were in attendance. The conference now
averages about 4,000 attendees each year.
Outside the conference
Baltimore, Maryland’s largest city and economic
hub, is known for its beautiful harbor, quirky, distinct
neighborhoods, unique museums and the
world-renowned Johns Hopkins Hospital. Baltimore
attractions include the Inner Harbor, Baltimore
Aquarium, Maryland Science Center, Fort McHenry,
Camden Yards (home of the Baltimore Orioles)
and M&T Bank Stadium (home of the Baltimore
