Now's a good time to become familiar with the 2002 National Electric Code, taking effect in most states at the start of 2002, according to the American Society of Safety Engineers.

The NEC is revised every three years by the National Fire Protection Association. The code has no legal standing on its own until adopted as a law by a city, county or state.
