Did a construction firm and a contractor take appropriate measures to protect workers at an Indiana site where three men died last Thursday when a wall collapsed during severe weather?
That’s the object of an investigation by Indiana state officials, as reported by the Indianapolis Star.
The Drexel Construction Co. and a contractor, identified as Cornerstone Division 4, were being investigated by state officials, Sean Keefer, a deputy commissioner with the Indiana Department of Labor, told a reporter
He did not know which company employed the three dead workers or two other men who were injured.
Columbus, Ohio-based Renier Construction had secured a building permit in April for a $1.8 million freight maintenance building at the site for Ohio-based Dayton Freight Lines in the city of Greenwood, Indiana.
Interior work appeared to have begun at the site when part of an interior wall in the logistics company's trucking terminal collapsed about 4:15 p.m., authorities said.
About 30 construction workers were at the construction site. Authorities did not know whether a powerful thunderstorm caused the collapse, according to the Star.
A rough storm blew through at that time, with winds of 50 mph to 60 mph and severe thunderstorms. The wind also picked up significantly and changed directions as the storm hit.
