Once again this year, the “Secret City” Fire Officer Conference and Safety Fest TN are bringing free safety and health training to the community, to include a conference for “those who rush in when we run out.” The “Secret City” Fire Officer Conference will be held on Wednesday and Thursday during the Safety Fest TN week, September 12th – 16th at New Hope Center in Oak Ridge, TN.

This year’s “Secret City” Fire Officer Conference will feature two nationally recognized speakers, Bob Norton and Phil McLaughlin. Mr. Norton has more than 25 years of experience focused on coordination, direction, strategic development, implementation, and leadership development for Cities, Utility Districts, Fire Departments, Fortune 500 companies, and organizations across the United States consulting and developing their executive management staff and personnel. Mr. McLaughlin is the retired Deputy Fire Commissioner, Chief of Operations for the Philadelphia Fire Department. He is currently serving as Emergency Management Consultant and instructor with - FEMA-NFA-EMI and one of the lead instructors for the Command and Control of Natural and Manmade Disasters Classes at the National Fire Academy. In addition to the two “headliners,” Greg Varner will be on-stage. Mr. Varner has over 25-years of instruction experience and teaches for the Department of Homeland Security.

A special highlight is the appearance of the Tennessee Fire Service and Codes Academy’s (TFSCA) Emergency Vehicle Driving Simulator. This state of the art simulator enables students to experience real- world situations without the logistical, legal, and moral ramifications that would automatically be attached to a mistake made on the streets. The mobile simulator will be on site for tours and demonstrations, Monday September 12th, 10:00 am until Thursday September 15th, 2:00 pm. Special thanks to TFSCA Director Hawks for making this available to Safety Fest TN and East Tennessee Fire Service.

The 2016 “Secret City” Fire Officer Conference is sponsored by the Y-12 Fire Department, Oak Ridge National Laboratory Fire Department, City of Oak Ridge Fire Department, City of Knoxville Fire Department, City of Maryville Fire Department, City of Alcoa Fire Department, and City of Loudon Fire Department. It is limited to 200 students and will be on a first come basis. Registration is free as the conference is paid for by the sponsors as a part of Safety Fest TN.

Safety Fest TN, September 12th - 16th features over 80 free safety and health classes, sessions and demonstrations. In addition to the free classes, a Safety Expo and Safety Demonstrations will take place on September 13th and 14th. The event provides free training to promote safety at work, at home and in the community. Safety Fest TN is made possible through a long list of event partners, sponsors and providers.
