A Binghamton, N.Y.-area mechanic died after he was crushed by a vehicle as he worked at an automotive service shop, according to the Associated Press. The worker driving the vehicle apparently was unfamiliar with operating a standard transmission.

The 40-year-old victim was pinned against a workbench when a pickup truck lurched forward. The incident happened late Monday afternoon at Tony B's Tire and Automotive Service in the town of Union.

Davis was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Another worker sustained multiple injuries in the accident and was hospitalized in serious condition.

Investigators say the men were pinned by the truck when another worker tried to move the vehicle from the work bay. She apparently wasn't familiar with operating a standard transmission and the vehicle suddenly moved forward.
