A new book recently released by the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) provides a "how-to" in developing and applying a comprehensive energy control program to reduce injuries from high-energy equipment.

"Lockout/Tagout: A Practical Approach," by Stephen M. Kelley, CSP, CHMM, is a practical handbook for dealing with OSHA's standard 1910.147 Control of Hazardous Energy, which requires that high-energy equipment be de-energized when workers are present.

The book covers the preparation, application and removal of a lockout/tagout procedure as well as group lockout/tagout, employee training and energy control. Lockout/tagout checklists, sample programs and case studies are also included.

The book sells for $34.95 for ASSE members and $42.50 for non-members. Contact ASSE at (847) 699-2929 or www.asse.org.
