OSHA and Clark Construction LLC of Bethesda, Md., are forming a partnership to foster a safe workplace for employees and to help contractors develop exemplary safety and health management systems during construction of the 401 M Street–Waterfront Project in Washington, according to an agency release.

According to OSHA, major goals of the partnership are to keep the DART rate below the national average for the commercial construction industry, and to further reduce this level of recordable injuries annually by at least four percent for the duration of the partnership.

The project, which includes the construction of two eight-story buildings and 6,000 feet of open retail space, is part of the redevelopment of southeast Washington, D.C., near the Anacostia River and the new ballpark for the Washington Nationals baseball team. The project will employ approximately 30 contractors and 1,000 tradespersons at peak construction.
