NFPA supports Mitchell for U.S. Fire Administrator

National Fire Protection AssociationNational Fire Protection Association (NFPA) President James M. Shannon has announced his organization's support of President Obama’s nomination of Chief Ernest Mitchell, Jr. for U.S. Fire Administrator. Shannon is urging Congress to approve Mitchell's appointment.

“Ernie Mitchell has impressive credentials that are a testament to his commitment and dedication to fire safety,” said Shannon. “With the skills and knowledge he has acquired through many years of fire service experience at a variety of levels and leadership roles in disaster and emergency management, he is well suited to lead our nation in matters of fire safety.” Mitchell has more than 30 years experience in the fire service and is a past president of the International Association of Fire Chiefs. Prior to his retirement, he served as Fire Chief and Assistant Director of Disaster Emergency Services for the City of Pasadena, California Fire Department. He also served as Fire Chief and Deputy City Manager of Monrovia, California and a Battalion Chief for the City of Compton, California.
