ASSEThe American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) has come out in support of the National Transportation Safety Board’s (NTSB) call for a nationwide ban on driver use of personal electronic devices (PEDs) while operating a motor vehicle.

“Too often overlooked is the fact that that the number one cause of on-the-job deaths of U.S. workers are incidents on our roadways," said ASSE President Terrie S. Norris, CSP, ARM, CPSI. "If NTSB’s call for a ban can help achieve significant reductions in distracted driving through reductions in the use of cell phones and other electronic communication devices on our roadways, then more American workers will be able to return home safely to their families each day,”

Norris said the ASSE is committed to making a nationwide PED-use-while-driving prohibition a reality. "The ban is just one of the tools in the campaign to reduce distracted driving.”
