The American Industrial Hygiene Association® (AIHA) will be one of the many organizations oberserving Workers Memorial Day and the National Day of Mourning on April 28. The designation makes the day an opportunity to remember those who have suffered and died due to unsafe workplaces.

In the U.S., April 28 is also the anniversary of the opening of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). OSHA protects workers by instituting occupational safety and health standards that remove workplace hazards and maintain safe working environments.

"AIHA’s membership comprises industrial hygienists who seek to keep workers, their families, and the community healthy and safe," according to the AIHA. "They play a vital part in ensuring that federal, state, and local laws and regulations are followed in the work environment. For over 70 years, AIHA has focused on improving occupational and environmental health and safety."

AIHA’s President, Elizabeth Pullen, CIH, remarked, “Workers Memorial Day is a day of observation and remembrance. We are aware that our efforts to improve workers’ health and safety will not be complete until workplace injuries and fatalities are eradicated. Until such a day, our members and volunteers will continue to strive for worker safety.”
