National Transportation Safety BoardA freight train derailment, explosion and fire early this morning in Columbus, Ohio resulted in injuries to two people in the vicinity of the accident. Authorities say no train personnel were injured.

The derailment forced the evacuation of a mile-wide area in Columbus. A spokesman for Columbus Public Health said that several of the train cars contained styrene, a carcinogenic derivative of benzene that can harm the nervous system.

A go-team from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is en route to Columbus to investigate the incident. Railroad specialist Cy Gura will serve as the Investigator-in-Charge. NTSB Board Member Earl Weener is accompanying the ten-person team.
