3E Company, a leading provider of environmental health and safety (EH&S) compliance and information management services, today announced the availability of a new Safety Card module for its 3E Online®-MSDS Safety Data Sheet (SDS) management platform. The module enables the quick and easy creation of safety cards, which inform employees of the risks involved with product usage, level of protection required, and emergency procedures.

Safety cards, also known as workplace safety instructions and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) assessments, are compulsory in Europe by regulatory requirements. In addition, they are used throughout the world as best practice tools that complement regulatory initiatives, such as the United States’ Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) and Canada’s Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).

Users can easily develop conforming safety cards within the Safety Card module by using information found on the corresponding SDS. The completed cards are then stored and hosted within the 3E Online platform and accessible alongside the relevant SDS. Other features of the module include:

• customization — users can customize text and add or remove entire sections before generating a card, edit cards at any time, and set expiration dates

• flexibility — users can create multiple cards per product and per location

• visual format — information displayed as pictograms with a color-coded system for identifying the hazard level of products (white, green, yellow, red)

• existing card retention — should some locations retain internal card creation systems, companies can load existing internal cards into the module

“An accurate and up-to-date safety card can be very effective in increasing workplace safety and mitigating risk,” said Tamie Webber, director, Product Management, 3E Company. “The cards are quite simple to comprehend, which can be invaluable in the event of an emergency or incident.  However, the card is only as valuable as the information on it. Our new Safety Card module helps increase the accuracy and validity of these important documents by automating the most complex parts of the development process.”

The Safety Card module is available immediately.
