From the general (EHS leadership) to the specific (industry specific, that is), sessions that will be held at Safety 2013, June 24-27 in Las Vegas, represent both long-standing topics and emerging challenges.
Under the umbrella of leadership are: How to Sell Safety to Difficult Employees and Managers, in which Raytheon Technical Services’ J.A. Rodriguez Jr., CSP, will discuss strategies for the implementation of an effective safety program.
There’s also the intriguingly titled, Would You Watch Out For My Safety - A Leadership Perspective. Speaker John W. Drebinger, Jr., will share insights from top safety leaders as he addresses how leadership can positively impact the safety of an organization.
Where Are All The Leaders? led by Daniel R. Nobbean and Michael A. Yusko, CSP, of Fiberteq LLC, will “give attendees the vision to engage their business and operational leaders in actively and energetically leading the safety and health activities in their organizations. The speakers promise that “the outcome should have everyone at Safety 2013 looking for the answer to the question, ‘WHERE ARE ALL THE LEADERS?’”
Safety professionals will will get an overview of their profession – and a global one, at that – in: An Insight into Significant Challenges Faced by the SH&E Profession. Colleagues from Europe, Australia and the Gulf Region will discuss the challenges they face, and how those challenges are being addressed. This session will provide an opportunity for attendees to compare these challenges and develop relevant solutions.
There will also be plenty of sessions that focus on the issues confronting individual industries. The differences between various construction standards will be explained during Construction Standards - OSHA or A10??? Richard F. King, CSP, of Black & Veatch and Frank L. Burg, P.E., CSP, of Accident Prevention Corporation will explore the key differences between the OSHA CFR 1926 Standards and the ANSI/ASSE A10 Construction and Demolition Standards and how both sets of these standards can be used to move construction safety and health forward.
Mining safety will be the topic of CORESafety: A New Direction in U.S. Mine Safety & Health Management. Bruce Watzman of the National Mining Association (NMA) will summarize the background, development, implementation status and challenges associated with CORESafety, the largest safety and health management initiative in U.S. Mining history.
One of the world’s most beautiful places may not seem like a particularly hazardous venue, but the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas, like all hospitality venues, does have hazards. In the session: Reducing Risk in Paradise - Steps the Atlantis Resort Took to Improve Guest Safety, Geoffrey M. Peckham of Clarion Safety Systems will show – in a colorful presentation -- how the the resort‘s new safety sign system is reducing risk and protecting guests.
Agriculture industry safety is represented in a number of sessions, including: Grain Entrapment - A Study of Effective Solutions for Rescue. With fatalities from grain bin entrapments are on the rise, the importance of finding and rescuing entrapped workers quickly is vital. This presentation will offer a video demonstration of specific solutions for rescuing someone from a bulk commodity container. Pre-planning with local agencies, regulatory compliance, simplicity and safety will be emphasized.
