Convention NewsAccording to the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), attendees who will make their way to Las Vegas for Safety 2013 June 24-26 are predominantly highly experienced safety professionals, with 78% having more than 10 years experience in their field.

Manufacturing well represented

Manufacturing will contribute the largest percentage of convention-goers (28 percent), followed by government (15 percent), construction (13 percent), service industries (12 percent) and insurance/finance/real estate and transportation/communication/utilities (tied at 10 percent). Eight percent of attendees will be from the mineral and chemical industries, three percent from retail and one percent from agriculture/forestry/fisheries.

The ASSE says that 84% of conference attendees visit the exposition, and that 51% of the buyers say they plan to spend $50,000 or more for products seen at the expo:

  • Over $1 Million – 11%
  • $500,001 - $1 Million – 8%
  • $100,001 - $500,000 – 17%
  • $50,001 - $100,000 – 15%
  • $25,001 - $50,000 – 10%
  • $10,001 - $25,000 – 9%
  • Under $10,000 – 15%

PPE, training and ergonomics products popular

The busiest booths will be those exhibiting PPE (46 percent of expo visitors are interested in them); training programs (43 percent); ergonomics (33 percent); safety footwear (31 percent); eye protection/eyewash stations (29 percent); monitoring devices (29 percent); hearing protection (28 percent); detection devices (gas, vapors, etc.) (27 percent); face/head protection (26 percent); sound/noise/vibration control devices (26 percent); computers and software programs (25 percent); emergency signs/labels (23 percent); consulting services (22 percent); safety floor products (22 percent); fire protection (22 percent); incentive programs (21 percent); environmental compliance products (19 percent); emergency equipment (19 percent); first aid supplies (19 percent); storage containers (15 percent); air purification equipment (12 percent)’ cleaners/solvents (11 percent) and back support equipment (ten percent).
