More than ten years after the first proposal was published, EPA has issued a final rule amending the solid and hazardous waste management regulations for wipes containing various solvents. The rule provides flexibility and can reduce the costs associated with the management of certain solvent-contaminated wipes while maintaining worker and environmental safety.
The rule became effective at the federal level on January 31, 2014, and is currently in effect in seven states and three territories. Many other states are currently working on adoption of the rule.
