But not for these companies, all snared in the last week in OSHA enforcement cases. No August doldrums down on Pennsylvania Avenue at the Department of Labor building:

August 9 – OSHA cites EASTERN ROOFING SYSTEMS INC. of Moscow, Pa. for fall hazards at a residential roof repairing operation in Scranton, Pa. Proposed penalties total$53,200.

August 9 – OSHA cites JOHNSON CONTROLS INC. for allowing employees to work on the roof of a Toledo facility without fall protection. Proposed penalties total$70,000.

August 9 – OSHA cites the U.S. POSTAL SERVICE for alleged willful and serious violations of safety standards following an inspection at the Boston Processing and Distribution Center. The Postal Service faces a total of$357,000in fines, chiefly for exposing workers to electrical hazards.

August 9 – OSHA issues 22 citations against AAR SUMMA TECHNOLOGY for exposing workers to safety and health hazards at its Huntsville, Ala. plant. Proposed penalties total$191,500.

August 5 – OSHA cites three construction companies and 14 site contractors for 371 alleged workplace safety violations, and proposed$16.6 millionin penalties, following an investigation into the causes of February's deadly natural gas explosion at the KLEEN ENERGY SYSTEMS LLC power plant construction site in Middletown, Conn. The explosion took the lives of six workers and injured 50 others.

August 5 – OSHA cites MATULA & MATULA CONSTRUCTION INC. of Lake Jackson, Texas for workplace safety and health violations following the death of an employee who was working inside a sanitary sewer manhole. Proposed penalties total$136,000.

August 5 – OSHA cites U.S. MINERALS LLC, a manufacturer of abrasive blasting and roofing materials, with two alleged willful, three alleged serious and four alleged repeat violations at its Baldwin, Ill. facility. The company faces a total of$158,200in fines for failure to have proper fall protection on elevated platforms, lack of proper electrical control devices and improper energy control training for workers.

August 4 – OSHA proposes fines of$721,000against Cooperative Plus Inc. in Burlington, Wisc. for violations of federal workplace safety standards.

August 4 – OSHA cites JIMMIE CROWDER EXCAVATING AND LAND CLEARING INC. of Tallahassee, Fla., with one willful and two serious safety violations that occurred in June at a Tallahassee worksite. Proposed penalties total$42,000.

August 4 – OSHA proposes$247,050in fines against U.F.S. INDUSTRIES, doing business as Sally Sherman Foods, chiefly for failing to correct hazards previously cited at the salad manufacturer's Mount Vernon, N.Y., plant.

August 4 – OSHA issues a failure to abate notice to 160 BROADWAY CORP., New York, doing business as Broadway Concrete, for failing to comply with the terms of a settlement agreement designed to eliminate worker exposure to fall hazards. Proposed penalties total$210,000.

That’s$18,785,950in proposed penalties for one week’s work.
