A hard landing, injuries, could have been prevented
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has determined that compliance with Southwest Airline’s stabilized approach criteria could have prevented a hard landing at LaGuardia International Airport in New York that injured eight passengers.
The NTSB found that the captain’s failed attempt to recover from an unstabilized approach by transferring airplane control at low altitude instead of performing a go-around caused the hard landing on July 22, 2013 of a Boeing 737, operated as Southwest Airlines flight 345.
