Advocacy group says it will weaken inspections of imports
The proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal would “undermine U.S. food safety standards and prevent commonsense food labeling,” according to Food & Water Watch, an advocacy group that promotes food safety and clean water.
The group says the language in the recently-released text of the deal is more aggressive than previous trade deals and provides broad new powers for other countries and foreign corporations to challenge U.S. food safety and food labeling measures.
