Saf-T-Gard® International, Inc. receives high honors for its 80th anniversary
Personal protective equipment provider is acknowledged by both the Village of Northbrook and the Illinois Senate for eight decades of service
Saf-T-Gard® International, Inc., a family-owned and operated global supplier of industrial safety products, recently earned recognition from both the Village of Northbrook and the Illinois Senate for the company’s 80th anniversary. A State of Illinois Senate Recognition certificate was granted by Illinois Senate President, John J. Cullerton, Secretary of the Senate, Tim Anderson, and Julie A. Morrison, State Senator from the 29th district. A resolution was also passed by the Village of Northbrook President and Board of Trustees to recognize and congratulate Saf-T-Gard for 80 years of entrepreneurship.
Saf-T-Gard has grown significantly since its humble, two-person factory loft beginnings. Founded as Latex Glove Manufacturing Company by Leo and Lillian Rivkin, the company began its operations in Chicago when the Rivkins acquired equipment from a balloon company and used it to produce waterproof, rubber-coated cotton gloves. They purchased cotton gloves, dipped them in the latex rubber tanks, let them dry overnight, and sold them the next day. In the 1940s, as Chicago manufacturers geared up to support the American war efforts, Latex Glove Company expanded its product offering as a full-line industrial glove distributor.
