Feds dole out nearly $200 million for safe train technology
It’s been recommended by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and cited as something that would have prevented some of the deadliest train accidents in recent history, but U.S. railway companies have been slow to adopt it.
Now, nearly $197 million in competitive grant funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) will help 17 railroads in 13 states implement Positive Train Control (PTC) systems to make their operations safer.
