What caused head-on train collision when one train wasn’t moving?
The public will learn next month what caused an Amtrak train to collide head-on with a stationary CSX train near Cayce, South Carolina, when the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announces the results of its investigation into the incident.
The engineer and conductor of the Amtrak train died as a result of the crash, which occurred on Feb. 4, 2018. At least 92 passengers and crew members on the Amtrak train were transported to medical facilities. The collision occurred when a southbound Amtrak train was diverted from the main track through a hand-thrown switch into a siding and collided head-on with stationary CSX train.
