Traffic accidents are the 8th leading cause of death for people of all ages, with around 1.3 million roadway deaths occurring globally each year according to the World Health Organization’s Global Status Report on Road Safety 2018. Of those deaths, The Bureau of Labor Statistics states that 1,299 occurred on US roadways and were work-related. Consequently, more fatalities resulted from transportation incidents than from any other accident-related event in 2017. Work related automotive accidents not only impact workers and their families, but also employers. According to a Motus 2018 driver safety report, auto accidents cost employers $56.7 billion annually. Of these costs, US companies pay an average of $65,000 per wreck with a non-fatal injury and $671,000 per wreck involving a fatality.
