It was more than a few years ago when I first learned how to sample for air pollutants in the workplace. I had to assemble my own filters after I weighted the filter media, buy my pumps, calibrate them, and try and find an analytical method that would tell me what to do with all that equipment so I could get meaningful and reproducible results.
Today, most chemicals can be sampled easily, without having to use pumps, cartridges or filters. The passive badge dosimeter allows even non-experienced personnel to obtain exposure readings.
