Safety professional George Swartz exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism: He sits on the National Safety Council's board of directors; is vice president for the council's industrial division; chairs Professional Safety magazine's editorial board; works on the Illinois governor's panel to make his state's workplaces safer; and speaks before various safety pro groups, including the American Society of Safety Engineers -on automotive safety, forklift training, safety auditing, the safety profession's future, safety program management, and how to write articles for publication. This year he was decorated with the ASSE's highest professional excellence award.
It's a wonder Swartz has had time in his 18 years at Midas International Corp. to climb to the company's top safety position. But he says, "I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for being involved."
