New management book shows the merits of safety leadership
Leadership in workplace safety is the key to improving organizational culture and performance, according to a new book, Leading with Safety, written by Thomas R. Krause, Ph.D., Chairman of Behavioral Science Technology, Inc. (BST).
The primary assertion in the book, written for leaders at all levels, is that organizational safety is an area that must be led and in turn leads to excellence in other performance areas. According to Dr. Krause, addresses the issue of why similar safety initiatives can be wildly successful in some organizations and an expensive failure in others. His research found not only that the quality of leadership predicted success (or lack of it), it also found that success in safety corresponded with high performance in general. Organizations where executives and managers "lead with safety" also tend to lead in productivity, profitability and quality.
