Since 1993, truck drivers have experienced the largest number of injuries and illnesses requiring time away from work, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In 1999, truck drivers experienced 141,000 lost-workday cases.
That’s dramatically higher than the number of lost-workday cases experienced by the next highest-ranking occupation on the serious injury hit list, laborers in non-construction jobs (89,000 cases).
