NTSB sends team to this morning's fatal railroad derailment in Maryland
A National Transportation Safety Board team is en route to Ellicott City, Md, to investigate a fatal freight train derailment that occurred just after midnight.
The incident happened when 21 of a CSX freight train’s 80 coal-filled cars derailed near the downtown area, flipping over and falling from a bridge. Some landed on cars in a parking lot below, leading to speculation that there may be more victims. Heavy cranes have been brought in to move the train cars and enable the search.
