It’s getting to the point where I might have to cave and wear reading glasses at work. I know I’m not alone. Workers surveyed by the Kensington Technology Group listed eyestrain as a leading cause of physical stress in the workplace. According to a study sponsored by the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), 68 percent of all office workers were concerned about lighting. Office workers consistently rated poor lighting as the first or second concern that needed to be addressed.
But how can one create ideal lighting in the industrial workplace? Instead of unified, even lighting, employees typically labor under a mishmash of overhead fluorescent lights, natural lighting, computer monitors and other machinery. The answer is complex. It sort of depends on where and how the lighting is used and how light interplays with signs and labels throughout the workplace.
