There are more than 100 different ways to weld metals together. With so many different ways to weld, types of metals, and filler materials comes many hazards such as flying particles, harmful dust, smoke, fumes, heat and light radiation.
As a 71 year old retiree, now occupying myself writing books on various subjects, I occasionally question some of the present day attitudes towards health and safety, both in the workplace as well in everyday living. I accept the need for health and safety controls and regulations to minimise the risk of personal injury, but it some respects, I think things are going too far.
Recently I was contacted by a student who is earning his degree in preparation for a career in Environmental Health & Safety. He was given an assignment during his internship to research why Unions oppose Behavior Based Safety (BBS).
