A survey by the Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association (TSSA) in the United Kingdom reveals that 75 percent of rail industry health and safety representatives consider overwork or stress to be the number one workplace hazard.

Overwork and stress rank ahead of asbestos, vibration and slips, trips and falls from height in the table of hazards. The TSSA survey was carried out so that health and safety reps could inventory the type and extent of health and safety issues experienced by their colleagues. Results will be used by union officials to help employers devise measures to reduce workplace hazards, particularly stress.
