According to OSHA, jobs with shift work, high stress, and exposure to certain chemicals and electrical hazards increase the risks of heart disease and cardiac arrest. Having automated external defibrillators (AEDs) appropriately located in a business or workplace improves the survival rates for people experiencing a cardiac crisis.
OSHA does not have standards specific to AEDs. However, exposures to first-aid hazards are addressed in specific standards for the general industry.
