Food & Water Watch, along with other members of the Safe Food Coalition, are urging U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to immediately stop a pilot program that eliminates border inspection of meat products from Canada.
OSHA has cited Logan Machine Co. of Akron, Ohio with 16 safety and health violations following a March inspection that was initiated upon receiving a complaint of alleged hazards. Proposed penalties total $66,600.

Just months prior to two flash fires at the Sinclair oil refinery (one on May 8 and another on May 25) injuring a total of six workers (at least three of them, regrettably, burned “severely”) Wyoming Occupational Safety and Health Administration inspectors had witnessed several other fires and fire hazards while performing a “process safety management audit,” according to the agency.
Thomson Plastics of Thomson, Ga. earned 11 violations during a February 2012 inspection – for some of the same hazards found in an OSHA inspection in February 2010. Penalties for the most recent action – which was a follow-up to the 2010 inspection – amount to $162,800.
Increasingly violent attacks against workers at an Idaho group home have led to an OSHA citation and a penalty of $4,900. OSHA has cited South Park Inc., operating as Developmental Options in Pocatello, with one serious violation for failing to provide employees with adequate safeguards against workplace violence.

OSHA has cited Simtek Inc. for alleged repeat and serious violations of workplace safety standards as well as failing to correct eight hazardous conditions cited during a 2011 OSHA inspection that was prompted by a worker injury.
Despite a number of challenges confronting the mining industry over the past two and a half years, including the worst coal mine disaster in four decades, the actions being taken by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and many in the industry are moving mine safety and health in the right direction, according to MSHA head Joseph A. Main, who spoke recently at Pennsylvania State University's Miner Training Program.
OSHA has cited roofing contractor Woodridge Enterprises Inc. in Lemont with four safety violations for failing to protect workers from falls at two separate job sites in Hinsdale and Carol Stream.
The U.S. Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) issued 335 citations, orders and safeguards during special impact inspections conducted at eight coal mines and four metal/nonmetal mines last month.
