BSI enters US consultancy market with EORM acquisition

January 14, 2015

Vendor NewsBSI, the business standards company, today announced the acquisition of the US consultancy Environmental and Occupational Risk Management, Inc. (EORM), based in San Jose, California. The deal will see EORM become an operating subsidiary of BSI’s Professional Services business in the US, significantly boosting EORM’s ability to offer a wider range of environmental, health, safety (EHS) and sustainability services to clients. From today, EORM will operate under the name, EORM – A BSI Professional Services Company.

The acquisition of EORM supports BSI’s international growth strategy and follows the purchase of NCS International in Australia in May 2013. The investment increases BSI’s US workforce from 290 to 450, will add over $30 million in revenue and strengthens its geographical presence in the western United States with 6 offices in California, Oregon and Texas. EORM’s technical expertise and sector specialization includes technology, construction, healthcare, and energy. Clients will now benefit not only from access to world-leading EHS consultancy services, but also to BSI’s proven standards, training, and compliance solutions.

Howard Kerr, Chief Executive at BSI said: “Both EORM and BSI have complementary values, expertise and services that help unlock excellence for our clients. Uniting EORM’s world class team and technical expertise with the internationally recognized BSI brand and global network accelerates us towards this goal.”

BSI has operated in the Americas for nearly 25 years serving over 16,000 clients. The US market has a strong demand for compliance services, and the acquisition of EORM will support BSI’s expansion of its professional services activities in parallel with the existing knowledge and assurance business. The addition of EORM provides an immediate opportunity for BSI to offer EHS consultancy in the Americas and for EORM to expand its offering both in the US and worldwide with a particular focus on organizations with globalized supply chains.

Todd VanderVen, BSI Americas President comments: “As a pioneer of best practice standards in environmental, risk, and health and safety, today’s announcement of this partnership greatly enhances our expertise in these important areas. Our complementary portfolio of advisory services, knowledge and compliance tools  enables us to provide a unique set of EHS services for the American market.

”EORM has a proven track record in delivering EHS consultancy services to over 450 internationally recognized clients and I’m delighted that the senior EORM leadership team will be joining BSI.”

Glenn Fishler, CEO and Founder of EORM adds: "By joining and working together, EORM and BSI have greatly multiplied our capabilities, expertise, service offerings and geographic reach to create a powerful, new, business-changing global consultancy, uniquely qualified to help improve performance, reduce risk and achieve sustainable growth for our clients. Our shared passion for delivering the right solutions – that have a positive impact and embed excellence – makes this a strong strategic and cultural fit for both our clients and our employees."

Kerr concludes on BSI’s acquisition strategy: “Over the past decade BSI has continued to grow our client base organically, increase our global footprint and expand our portfolio offering. The US is our second largest market and this acquisition reinforces the importance of this geographical region to our overall strategy.  We have even greater ambitions for future growth, which will include quality acquisitions like EORM.”

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
