• Eugene Gates, Jr., a 66-year-old letter carrier in the Lakewood Post Office in Dallas, collapsed in a front yard on his route and died on June 20. Temperatures reached 97 that day, with the heat index about 115. He assured his wife, “Baby, I’m used to it. I know what to do.”
• Felipe Pascual, 46, was pouring cement at a job site when he passed out on June 16, according to the Galveston County Medical Examiner's Office. Pascual was rushed to Hermann Memorial Hospital Pearland, where he died in the emergency room from hyperthermia.
