You might have noticed a change in the name of this column. For many years it was titled "Industrial Hygiene." Now it's called "Managing Risks." Why the change? Industrial Safety & Hygiene News' editors and writers strive to provide information that helps you perform your job better, or helps enhance your career objectives. We sense a change in the industrial hygiene field and we want this column to reflect it. But it's important to keep in mind the goal, as always, remains the same: To prevent injuries, illnesses, and deaths on the job.
There are many ways to pick up on change in the profession. One important method is sampling- conducting a survey. Industrial Safety & Hygiene News has been conducting annual trends surveys for more than a decade now. Data from these surveys are used to prepare ISHN's annual "White Paper Report." A lot can be gleaned about changes in the industrial hygiene field by studying the responses.
