A California sausage factory owner was arrested after allegedly shooting to death three government health inspectors touring the company on June 21, according to the San Leandro, Calif., police department.

Two inspectors from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and one from the state health authority were shot to death, according to police. A fourth inspector escaped from the plant, located about 20 miles southeast of San Francisco.

The facility had recently reopened after being closed for health violations and the owner had been in a long-running dispute with health officials, according to news reports.
