Corporations are taking steps to protect U.S.-born employees working overseas as the nation's war on terrorism gains steam.

Thousands of employees in hot spots such as Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia and the former Soviet Union are being instructed to take safety precautions, and in some cases are being relocated.

Employees of well-known U.S. companies in particular are being warned to monitor local news, maintain contact with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate, and limit their movements.
