Chocolate plant shows bad taste with poor safety practices
Nestle Confections and Snacks (Fulton, N.Y.) has been cited and fined by OSHA for 32 alleged violations following an inspection after a June 12 incident in which a worker's arm was amputated in a machine. The company reportedly failed to provide adequate machine guarding.
OSHA proposed penalties of $62,450 for 27 alleged serious violations, two alleged repeat violations and three alleged other-than-serious violations of standards. Among the alleged serious violations was failure to provide adequate machine guarding for such equipment as rotating horizontal shafts, belts and pulleys.
