The Department of Defense this week began deployment within the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) of a Web-based health-information system to enhance occupational healthcare services and reduce health threats to military and civilian personnel.

The program, developed Northrop Grumman Corp., was created to support the collection, storage and analysis of information regarding occupational exposures, workplace environmental monitoring, personal protective equipment usage, work practices and employee health-hazard educational data. It is working under the title ofThe Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System-Industrial Hygiene(DOEHRS-IH).

NNSA plans to utilize DOEHRS-IH at its Nevada test site to assist in meeting employee protection requirements and provide a Web-based system for managing industrial hygiene records. DOEHRS-IH will replace several disparate databases currently in use. Fielding and training will commence on Jan. 16 and be completed by Feb. 1.
