OSHA’s personal protective equipment standard for general industry, 29 CFR910.132-1910.138, governs the requirements for an employer to provide chemical protective gloves to an employee. This rule makes it mandatory for the employer to assess the specific task and ensure that the proper glove is provided to the employee for the task being done. An employer must perform a hazard assessment of each job task and determine the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that should be used during the execution of that task. In this article, we will be looking at chemical protective gloves, when they should be used, how to choose the proper glove and some basic characteristics of the most common chemical protective glove materials.
