Design contest to honor Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire victims, legacy
The Remember the Triangle Fire Coalition (RTFC) is seeking entries for an international design competition to honor the victims of the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire and its legacy. The memorial will be located in New York City on the exterior of the building, where this historic fire occurred.
One of the deadliest industrial disasters in U.S. history, the fire killed 146 garment workers, who died from the fire, smoke inhalation, or falling or jumping to their deaths. Most of the victims were young women, and most were recent immigrants.
