Frost & Sullivan presents RAE Systems with global leadership award in gas detection

Silicon Valley gas-detection manufacturer recognized for its leading market growth and product innovation

March 28, 2013

SMG announces 2012 award winnersRAE Systems, Inc., a leading provider of toxic-gas and radiation monitoring solutions, today announced it has received the prestigious Frost & Sullivan Global Leadership Award for gas detection, based on the global research organization’s independent market research.

The annual award showcases companies in various market segments that capture the highest annual compounded growth over the past five years based on Frost & Sullivan’s independent analysis of worldwide markets. In the three-year period ended Dec. 31, RAE Systems achieved an impressive average year-over-year revenue growth exceeding 13 percent, and in the past five years, realized a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7 percent—nearly double the industry CAGR.

“RAE Systems is a high-growth company that is gaining market share faster than other market participants in the gas-detection space, driven by its successful integration of wireless communication and data transmission capabilities into its products,” said Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Anita Pamu. “RAE Systems has established itself as a one-stop shop for gas detection and monitoring solutions. Its rapidly-deployable, connected, intelligent gas and radiation detection systems enable real-time delivery of safety and security threat detection, and are used for risk mitigation, asset protection and worker safety by major global organizations in energy, oil and gas exploration and refining, industrial, HazMat, military, first response, public and sports venues.”

Wireless Gas Detection & Energy Market Success

Key findings in the report include RAE Systems’ successful use of wireless (data transmission) technology in many of its products. This includes RAE Systems’ ProRAE Guardian, advanced monitoring software that provides instantaneous access to real-time data, including physiological parameters for workers in hazardous and stressful environments, and location data of workers and emergency response teams.

“The ProRAE Guardian system acts as a ‘mobile command and control center’ for situations that require real-time access to toxic gas and radiation data across geographically dispersed teams,” said Pamu. “This real-time data capability validates the effectiveness of the gas detection and monitoring solution, and has the potential to change the way gas-detection monitoring is done.”

The report also highlights the company’s leadership in gas detection for energy exploration and refining. “RAE Systems is a proven technology leader that owns and manufactures its own sensor technology and is able to differentiate itself from its competitors by offering a broad array of intelligent fixed and portable gas detectors and transportable area monitors, especially in the growing energy exploration and refining sector. RAE Systems has been able to penetrate markets that were initially hesitant to adopt wireless data transmission, like the oil and gas industry, by providing innovative and reliable solutions for gas detection and monitoring. In addition to its product and service offerings, it also offers a full range of training and support materials, thus making it a comprehensive technology and solution provider.”

Frost & Sullivan reports that RAE Systems’ market position is strengthened by successful introductions of new, innovative wireless instruments, including its MeshGuard wireless gas-detection platform, ToxiRAE Pro family of single-gas personal monitors, and its “immensely successful” MultiRAE family of multi-gas handheld instruments. According to the report, RAE Systems shipped more than 500,000 gas-detection units worldwide since 2002 and produces 20,000-plus sensors each month.

According to Frost & Sullivan, health and safety organizations—such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE)— are expanding industrial safety guidelines to include worker health issues from long-term exposures. This trend continues to build strong demand in the gas-detection sector for innovative, high-performance and intelligent gas-detection systems that enable real-time safety and health monitoring, and security-threat detection.

“RAE Systems remains steadfast in its commitment to help global safety professionals reduce risk, and keep workers, first-responders, assets and the public safe with industry-leading gas-detection solutions,” said RAE Systems’ Chief Operating Officer Chris Toney. “This recognition reflects RAE Systems’ highly-differentiated chemical and radiation detection systems and strong customer relationships. We continue to expand into new markets through the development of life-saving threat detection technologies and products for our customers worldwide. The company will continue to differentiate itself as a leader in delivering world-class wireless gas sensors and radiation detection technologies, and drive growth into new areas that will ultimately improve life-saving techniques.”
