ACGIH® presents Hood Design and Flow Characteristics webinar

ACGIH® will present Hood Design and Flow Characteristics on December 8, 2016 at the following times:

  • 2:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time
  • 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Central Time
  • 12:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Mountain Time
  • 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Pacific Time

Hood Design and Flow Characteristics is a webinar that will explore the types and characteristics of different styles of hoods commonly employed in industry. The presentation will include the definitions of terms applied to hoods, the application of different styles of hoods, and the limitations and advantages of their use. Included in the presentation will be instruction on how to calculate hood pressure losses, proper selection of hood design parameters (capture velocity, face velocity, volume, placement), and external factors that can potentially affect hood performance.

After participating in this webinar, attendees will:

  • Understand the design goals of hoods and proper selection
  • Understand different types of hoods and proper application of specific types
  • Understand limitations of hoods in specific applications
  • Understand airflow requirements for different types of hoods
  • Understand critical issues for hood design and application
  • Understand hood design and determine hood static pressure losses

ACGIH® is pleased to offer webinar attendees an audio option. U.S. and Canadian attendees can connect to the audio portion of the webinar via the toll-free audio telephone link or listen to the audio portion through an audio stream directly through their computer. Other international participants can listen via the audio stream without incurring additional telephone charges.

Robert Shearer and Jesse Graf, PE will present this webinar.

Robert Shearer is the President of KBD Technic, a consulting engineering firm that specializes in the design, testing, and troubleshooting of industrial ventilation systems. The firm’s capabilities also include stack emissions testing. Mr. Shearer has been an instructor at the North Carolina Industrial Ventilation Conference and is an instructor and planning committee member at the Michigan State University Industrial Ventilation Conference. Mr. Shearer was awarded the 2011 Krueger Fay Meritorious Service Award for leadership in the field of industrial ventilation. Mr. Shearer is a member of the ACGIH® Industrial Ventilation Committee. He is also a member of NFPA, ASHRAE, and AFS.

Jesse Graf, PE is the Director of Engineering at KBD Technic. Mr. Graf is a professional engineer in the states of Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. He has performed design and engineering on over 100 different industrial ventilation projects, with broad experience in all facets of the field. His experience ranges from the design and engineering of systems large and small to the analysis and troubleshooting of underperforming systems. Mr. Graf is a member of ACGIH®.

This webinar contains 2.5 hours of instruction and may be eligible for ABIH CM credit. See the ABIH website (www.abih.org) for CM credit criteria. This webinar may also qualify for BCSP recertification points for Certified Safety Professionals. Participants seeking confirmation of attendance for the webinar from ACGIH® must attend the live webinar or view the archive and submit a final exam and evaluation. Certificates of Completion will be issued in a timely manner after receipt and completion of these items.
