10,000 Illinois workers to get safety training through partnership

OSHA, TekSolv and American Allied Safety Council, Southwestern Illinois Building Trades Council, and Council of Owners of Construction Associates Inc. have established an alliance that will provide safety training, safety resources, and information to roughly 10,000 skilled training workers in Southwestern Illinois.

Railroad worker’s position eliminated after he makes a safety complaint

Metra ordered to pay damages to 22-year employee

OSHA has found that the Northeast Illinois Regional Commuter Railroad Corp., known as Metra, violated the Federal Railroad Safety Act when a signalman's work hours were changed and his position was eliminated after he made a safety complaint. The company is ordered to pay more than $38,080 in overtime, along with interest, compensatory damages and attorney's fees.

Firearms manufacturer under the gun for exposing workers to lead

OSHA has cited Illinois Gun Works Ltd. for 28 alleged health violations following a Jan. 21 inspection referred by the Illinois Department of Public Health that found two gun range operators were exposed to airborne lead levels up to 12 times the permissible level. Proposed fines total $111,000.
