AIHce 2010 speakers: Cousteau, Trumka, Michaels, Howard (2/19)

Professionals in the industrial hygiene and environmental health and safety (EHS) fields will gather in Denver, Colorado, May 22–27, 2010, for the annual American Industrial Hygiene Conference and Expo (AIHce). Co-sponsored by the American Industrial Hygiene Association® (AIHA®) and the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH®).

AIHce 2010 will feature long-standing sessions and professional development courses (PDCs), as well as new programming. Highlights of this year’s conference include:

Opening and general session presentations on “Redesigning Our Future” by Jean-Michel Cousteau, son of Jacques Cousteau and president of Oceans Future Society; “The Labor Movement: Building Health and Safety Protections on the Job” by AFL-CLO President Richard L. Trumka; and “New Frontiers in Science and Practice” by Assistant Secretary of Labor David Michaels, PhD, MPH; and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Director John M. Howard, MD, MPH, JD.

A new symposium on Leadership in Energy and Design (LEED) and green building design, construction, and operation.

Sixty-seven PDCs, including special PDCs, Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Exam Preparation Workshop, Fundamentals of Finance and Accounting for Nonfinancial OEHS Managers, and Time Management in an Age of Turbulence, as well as new weekend courses on project management, decision making in exposure assessments, and promoting the value of industrial hygiene in business.

The enhanced Unsolved IH Mysteries Workshop, luncheon discussions, poster sessions, programming geared to students and early career professionals (including the Future Leaders and Young Member Reception and a luncheon talk specifically for students), “Tech Talks” given by volunteer groups, NIOSH’s Emerging Issues/Current Trends discussion, and a variety of technical tours.
