California Governor Gray Davis has proclaimed May as “Safe Jobs for Youth Month” to focus attention on teen injuries in the workplace as employers gear up for hiring summer help.

The California Commission on Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation has convened the California Study Group on Young Workers’ Health and Safety to further the cause of teen safety. Winning posters from a contest among high school students are being distributed to 1,300 California high schools, and a teaching packet to educate students about workplace safety has been developed for teachers.

A Web site to encourage workplace safety and health has also been launched at www.youngworkers.org.
