Want to compare your salary with those of your fellow safety professionals? The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) has released results of a salary survey conducted in conjunction with the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE).
Resolution #1: Less Focus On Preaching More On Teaching. Awareness campaigns are important for the unaware. But most workers who ultimately get hurt do so knowing something they know is dangerous, or at very least that they suspected COULD be dangerous. Too many awareness campaigns make safety professionals feel good about themselves but come off as smug and condescending to workers.
Citing the negative impact it could have on occupational safety and health, the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) said it strongly opposes action by the Office of the Federal Register (OFR) that could harm the future development of timely and effective voluntary national consensus safety and health standards.
Attendees at Safety 2012 – coming up June 3-6 in Denver, CO – will hear from Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA Dr. David Michaels, who is expected to discuss the GHS and HCS, National Emphasis Programs (NEPs), fall prevention and other agency priorities.

Over the coming year and beyond, the national demand for occupational safety and health services will significantly outstrip the number of men and women with the necessary training, education, and experience to provide such services, based on current trends, according to the results of a national survey reported by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).
Last week I covered the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) annual meeting and as is always the case I ran into more than a couple of earnest looking safety professionals who, with a straight face, claimed that they were trying hard to work themselves out of a job.
