New York City Council Member James F. Gennaro, backed by representatives from the New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health and ten major labor unions, has re-introduced the Work Place Safety Act to the City Council.

For the first time, the city would be required to monitor, document and make publicly available statistical data on employee injuries and illnesses. Info can then be used to accurately identify hazardous jobs and address the sources of unsafe conditions in the workplace. The ultimate aim is to reduce the number and severity of workplace injuries and workers’ compensation cases.
