Nevada’s Safety Consultation and Training Section awards Haws Corporation® with Top Safety & Health Achievement Honor

Haws
September 6, 2018

The Safety Consultation and Training Section (SCATS) of the State of Nevada’s Division of Industrial Relations recently recognized Haws for their successful entry into the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP). SHARP recognizes employers who have used OSHA’s on-site consultation program services and operate exemplary safety and health programs. Acceptance of your worksite into SHARP from OSHA is an achievement of status that singles our Haws as a model for worksite safety and health. Haws actively worked with SCATS over the past two years to earn this award for excellence in workplace health and safety.

“As a company who manufacturers emergency response equipment for more than 60 years, safety is an essential part of our business.  This attitude is reflected in not only the products that we sell, but also in how we operate day-to-day, and in our company culture. For us, safety is much more than a policy book; it’s a core value that we apply to all aspects of our business.  We recognize that the health and safety of our employees is integral to our success and receiving the SHARP award demonstrates our commitment to maintaining a comprehensive and proactive safety program. This is a significant achievement for our team,” said Melanie Mayer, Safety Supervisor /ISO Coordinator at Haws.

Haws joins an elite group of businesses that have successfully entered the SHARP program and participation in the no-cost program is designed to provide incentives and support to employers to develop, implement and continuously improve safety and health programs at their worksite(s). By taking these proactive measures, a business can reduce accident costs and ensure compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) regulations.

“We are thrilled that Haws Corporation has earned its first SHARP award,” said Todd Schultz, Chief Administrative Officer for SCATS. “The company’s commitment to workplace safety is commendable and this new SHARP status shows a true dedication to keeping their employees safe and healthy at work.”

SCATS consultants provide employers with confidential hazard identification, program development, program implementation assistance and training. Employers that implement effective safety and health programs and have Days Away Restricted Transfer (DART) rate below the national average for their industry group, may be recognized by SCATS. Successful SHARP participants receive a two-year exemption from OSHA’s general schedule inspections.
