The Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) have renewed a collaborative partnership to improve occupational safety and health at workplaces throughout the United States and enhance the development of safety and health professionals. 

BCSP and NIOSH have agreed to use their collaborative efforts and expertise to improve the protection of workers through effective prevention strategies and technologies. The organizations will also encourage students and other professionals to choose occupational safety and health as a career and advance their competency in the field.

BCSP’s Board President, Leslie Stockel, MS, CSP, SMS and NIOSH Director, John Howard, MD, MPH finalized the agreement on January 19, 2022. Stockel noted, "It is vitally important to continue the great work that this collaboration has garnered over the years." Dr. Howard stated, “Certified safety practitioners take the research and knowledge from NIOSH and put it into practice. This partnership is a natural fit for both organizations.”

National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), is the federal institute that conducts research and makes recommendations for preventing work-related injuries, illnesses and deaths. NIOSH is part of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It has the mandate to assure “every man and woman in the Nation safe and healthful working conditions and to preserve our human resources.”
